Quick Sale vs Maximum Profit: Choosing the Right Listing Price
By The Garage Sail team··2 min read
The trade-off
Price low and your item sells fast. Price high and you might sell for 30% more but wait weeks, tie up storage, and risk price shifts.
Rules of thumb
- Seasonal item, in season: price fair or high.
- Seasonal item, out of season: quick-sale or hold.
- Fast-moving staple: fair.
- Rare or in-demand: max profit.
- Depreciating tech: quick-sale.
Set your floor first
Whatever tier you pick, calculate the lowest price you'll accept after fees, shipping, and cost of goods. That's your negotiation floor. When an offer comes in above the floor, accept immediately.
When to reprice
If a listing sits two weeks with no offers, drop to Fair. Another two weeks: Quick-Sale. Sitting inventory is a cost.
