How Better Listing Details Reduce Returns and Item-Not-as-Described Problems

By The Garage Sail team··2 min read

Why returns happen

Most INAD cases aren't fraud — they're expectations. The buyer expected a condition your listing didn't promise but also didn't rule out.

Set expectations in writing

  • Every flaw described AND photographed.
  • Measurements when size matters.
  • What's included AND what's not.
  • Any feature you didn't test, said so.

Language that prevents claims

"Excellent used condition with no visible flaws" is weaker than "Used a handful of times. Minor scuff on right heel, photographed. Interior clean, no odors." Specificity is protection.

When to accept anyway

Even with perfect listings, some returns come through. Accepting quickly beats fighting for two weeks and losing.
